The Christian Buehler Home decided that their current skilled nursing facility needed to be upgraded to provide modern amenities and a more residential setting. Other goals for the project were to locate most patients in private rooms, provide showers in every room and house the current two story nursing facility all on one floor.
Design Builder for Healthcare Facilities
As the design/builder for the project, P.J. Hoerr assembled a design team and was responsible for both the design and construction of the project. P.J. Hoerr then developed a Guaranteed Maximum Price early in the design process and then submitted the project for review to the IDPH and subsequent approval.
The first phase of the project included the construction of a 20,000 sq ft skilled nursing addition to the current facility. This was followed by the reconstruction of the existing first floor skilled nursing (18,400 sq ft) and then finally, the second floor spaces (15,500 sq ft) was converted to independent living apartments. The project was constructed while maintaining full operations in the home. Since this is a state licensed facility, all construction activities were governed by Illinois Department of Public Health requirements. The final project provides 58 skilled nursing beds and 12 independent living apartments.
